Every once in a while I'm given the opportunity, to not only remember, but also to share the passion for what I do with others. The technicalities and processes for creating an image with the camera have always seem to come relatively easy for me. However, I'm not able to fully realize what a gift this is until I attempt to translate what I've learned to someone else.
A client had recently called to schedule a brief 2 hour photography lesson for her kids, just before they headed to Europe, where they would connect with a well known photographer. Slightly intimidated, the two kids wanted to better understand their equipment before heading over. Typically, I like to have 3 to 4 weeks of private lessons before I feel that they've really grasped the concepts of even the basics, such as ISO, shutter speed and apertures. I was completely blown away by these bright protégés. Not only did we have a great time shooting, but I can't help but feel extremely satisfied and honored, having breed two more image makers. I get excited meeting people with vision and an appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us. Taking what their mind's eyes see, and translating it through the lens onto paper (or social media rather), even better.
